What do you think is the most important festival in western countries such as the USA , England, Canada , France and so on? S:Christmas Day. T: When is Christmas Day? S: December 25th. T: But why do people in western countries celebrate Christmas Day? Who was born on that day? S: Jesus Christ T: December the 25th is the birthday of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was born nearly 2000 years ago. Many people gave presents to him to celebrate his birthday. That’s why people nowadays still give presents to each other on Christmas Day . 2.T: What do people in western countries usually do when Christmas is coming? How do people get ready for Christmas Day? S: Cut down trees to make Christmas trees Decorate their houses Send Christmas cards to their friends or relatives Do some shopping ….. 3.T:Children usually help their parents get ready for Christmas .and they are very excited on the night before Christmas Day. .But they will never forget to do one thing before they go to bed on Christmas Eve. Who do they think will fill their stockings with presents? S: Father Christmas T: Who is Father Christmas? What does he look like? S: in red ,kind-hearted T:What can you find on his back? S: A large bag. T: Can you guess what is in the bag? S: Presents. T:When does he come to fill children’s stockings with presents? S:On Christmas Eve. T:How can he get into each house? Does he get into each house through the door or through the window ? S:Neither.Through the chimney. T:But why does he get into each house through the chimney instead of through the window or the door? S:Maybe he doesn’t want to wake up the owner of the house. Maybe …. StepIII.Presentation 1.T: Some people believe there is Father Christmas in the world ,while others don’t think so? What do you think ? Do you believe it or not?Why? S:I don’t think so. T:Do you think it is possible for Father Christmas to climb down the chimney of every house in the world in one night? S: Of course not. 2.T: But in fact Father Christmas is based on a real person in history. What was his name ? What kind of person was he?(generous) What did he do to help people? There is a story about him in Lesson 30 .Now please read the second and the third paragraph in Lesson 30 and then answer my questions. What was the person’s name ? What did he come from? ( Play the song Jingle bells ) 4.T: We have just listened to a famous Christmas song Jingle bells.There are many other Christmas songs that people like to sing during the Christmas season .But do you know how they sing Christmas songs during the Christmas season? Why do they sing Christmas songs? Please read the first paragraph and answer my questions? How do people sing Christmas songs during the Christmas season? (like to get together from house to house) What do they do that for? ( do it for fun and bring the spirit of Christmas to the people in each house) 5.T:We know children put stockings at the end of their beds before they go to bed on Christmas Eve. S:I will open the presents first . T: So will I .Children can always find presents in their stockings .But they can also find presents in other places.
