Let the students have a main idea of the good table manners. 2. Make a contrast study on table manners in Chinese and Western cultures. 3. Encourage the students to be persons with good manners. 4. Develop the students’ ability of reading comprehensive. Teaching Tools: Multimedia, tape recorder. Teaching Procedures： I. Greeting (Show Slide1) T: Class begins Ss: (Stand up) T: Good morning, class! Ss: Good morning, teacher! T: Sit down, please. How are you? Ss: Fine! Lead-in activity T: Did you have a good weekend? Ss: Yes. T: What did you do? Did you go to visit someone? Or did you do some sports? Anything special? (Ask some students to answer this question) S: T: (Make some comments: You should do sth to relax yourselves./ It’s good for your health.) Well! Do you want to know what did I do? Ss: Yes. T: Last weekend, one of my friends moved to a new house. He invited some friends and me to visit his new house. (Show Slide2) Look, that’s my friend Jim, and his wife. As a result, we had a dinner party there. (Show Slide3) So many delicious food. We enjoyed the dinner party very much. (Show Slide4) By the way, do you know there are some table manners at a dinner party? For example, if the glasses touch, you should finish the drink at once. Ss: (Thinking) T: However, people in the West don’t do so. What do they do at a dinner party? Do you want to know? Ss: Yes. T: OK. Let’s go to our today’s lesson Good Manners At A Dinner Party. (Show Slide5) II. Listening & Skimming T: Now, open your books and turn to page38. Reading: Good Manners At A Dinner Party. Listen to the tape, read the text quickly, at the same time, you should divide the text into 3 parts, and match the main ideas of each part. Are you ready? (Show Slide6) (Play the tape) T: Have you finished your reading? Ss: Yes. T: Good! Let’s do the match together. T & Ss: The first part is about laying the table and good table manners. It contains para.1. Part two tell us the order of dishes and good table manners. It is from para.2 to para.5. And the last paragraph is the third part. It is about table manners’ changing over time and places. III. Careful reading Part1 T: Do you want to learn more about table manners? (Show Slide7) T: OK. Look at the slide. In para.1, we should work out these two questions. (Show Slide8) Q1. How is the table laid? Q2. What are good table manners with the napkin? First, let’s come to question 1. (Show Slide9) Look, here are many dinner tools on the left. Now, you are asked to lay them on to the table. According to the text, where should the napkin laid? … Part2 T: OK! Now, please read part2 carefully. Meanwhile, please pay attention to these questions. (Show Slide10) Q1.
