The fact that she didn’t even know Klegg was Mrs Flower’s dog surprised Tom. 11. What did Tom decide to do then? ----- He went to visit a famous detective called J. J. Coal. 12. What did he want the detective to do ? ----- He wanted him to check out this Clare Flower and see whether she has the right to get Mrs Flower’s money. T: The famous detective decided to look into the matter. He asked Tom Goode to go through some things among Mrs Flower’s papers, like Clare’s school reports, old photographs and so on. ------- Present at the meeting were Clare Flower, Tom Goode , the lawyer, the detective and an unknown man ( policeman). 14. What fact made people known that the woman wasn’t Clare Flower? ------ When she added her signature , she was found right-handed , while Clare Flower was left-handed. T: Later the policeman took away Hope Darwin. And Tom Goode was smiling. 15. Why was he so happy? ------ He thought he could get the money, because he was the only one of Mrs Flower’s relatives still alive. 16. Did he get the money? ------ No. 17. (2) start 表示由静到动的转折,与stop 相对。 表示“启航,出发”。 “启动”机器时只能用start.
