Lesson Plan Student name Book: Go for it! Book III Lesson plan No.: Period 1_ Subject English Grade Eight Lesson type Grammar Topic Unit 3 What were you doing when the UFO arrived? Resource analysis This lesson is the first period of the third unit of the textbook. It revolved the usage of the past tense in adverbial clause of the time. The adverbial clause of time is one of the important grammars of the eight tenses in Junior High School. What’s more, the adverbial clause of time is very common whenever in the class or after the class, and this unit is the third unit that plays a very important role in connecting the rest knowledge of the textbook. Hence, having a good knowledge of this unit will lay a solid foundation for the further study. In this class, the main content is the topic of “What were you doing when somebody did something?” This topic is related to our daily life, which enable students to use simple words to exchange their views. Student analysis Even though they are junior grade 2 students, who have already learned some basic communicative English yet, it is still necessary to use videos, some pictures and games to attract their interests and get themselves involved in the class. Students are in different levels. Some students are good at language spoken, while some students have abundant words and phrases. That's why students in the same class are in different level. Most of students can understand and apply the knowledge to the common life communicating, while some of the students are poorer. Fortunately most of the students are curious about English and are interested in it. They are active in class and want to gain the teacher’s recognition. 1. Knowledge Objectives (1)Remember and apply the key words in this lesson: barber shop well bathroom accident (2)Understand and apply the target sentences: What were you doing when the UFO arrived? The boy was walking down the street when the UFO arrived. While the boy was walking down the street, the UFO arrived. (3)Master the usage of the grammar structure of two words: when and while 2. Skill Objectives (1)Enable students to talk about what they were doing with the required language points. (2)Develop their skill of speaking and consciousness of applying English to their usual communication. (3)Strengthen their confidence by taking part in activities actively. 3. Affect Objectives (1) Improve the cooperative spirit through pair work (2)Experience the enjoyment of studying English though participating class activities. T：look at the pictures on ppt, can you describe what is he doing Ss: the boy is playing guitar The boy is plying computer. The boy is taking photos. The boy is swimming. The boy is playing football. T: excellent, everybody. Okay, class, do you believe the real existence of UFO? (teacher gave a topic to the students, in order to arouse their interest of this lesson and also bring them to the topic: what were you doing when the UFO arrived？ ) T：okay，student a ,do you think so? Ss：…… Step 2 Presentation 1、T: well, thank you for your answer. So, now, what were you doing when UFO arrived? Ss: I was playing computer. I was taking photos of UFO….. T: Well, look at the ppt, and imagine what the people doing in the picture and match the right people and places in the form 1、------I was in the bathroom 2、------I was in my bedroom 3、------I was in front of the library 4、------I was in the kitchen 5、------I was in my barber shop 6、------I was in the barber`s chair. 2、listen to the radio and check your answer. The teacher emphasis the topic sentence during listen to the radio. 3、teacher chooses one student to make a conversation based on the listening material, then give every group one task just like what the teacher and student did just now. for example: A: What were you doing when the UFO arrived? B: I was sleeping when the UFO arrived.: Step 3 creative practice T: Ok, ladies and gentlemen, you all did a very good job! Now, let`s have a guess about a group of pictures in our ppt, and the member in their group must use your imagination to make a story by using what we have learned in our class, and this time each group will have grade according to your presentation. Okay, look at the pictures…….Which group wants to have a try? Ss: The boy was reading a book when the UFO arrived…… Step4 group work Through using the target language, each group will do a survey .the details are as follow: 1. the researcher must use the sentence: What were you doing when the teacher came into our classroom? 2. after the survey, each group must do a presentation and the other group make a comment on their performance. Step11 Homework Imagine what were you doing when UFO came and write it down. Purpose Through the vivid situation to draw their attention and arouse their interests. By showing them vivid pictures and examples, to leading them to the topic. Through guessing what the picture are to strengthen the sentence structures. Through group work , to develop the students’ sense of cooperation and to strengthen the teaching focus of this classUsing the listening radio to broaden the ways of learning English By group work, on the one hand, to develop their ability of observation and summary, on the other hand, to cultivate the students a good sense of competition and cooperation .
