another 和the other辨识

another和the other都有“另一个”的意思，但表示的意义不同。
another 指三个或三个以上的人或物中的“另一个”、“又一个”。another 可以单独使用，也可以接单数名词或“基数词+复数名词”。例如：
Would you like another cake? 你想再要一块蛋糕吗？
I need another ten minutes to finish my homework. 我还需要十分钟才能完成家庭作业。
the other 常与one 搭配，构成“one...the other...”结构。这时the other 表示“（两个人或物中的）另一个”；the other 后面接复数可数名词，表示“剩下的”、“其余的”之意。例如：
He has two sons. One is a driver, and the other is a teacher. 他有两个儿子，一个是司机，另一个是教师。
Some students are in the classroom, the other students are in the teachers' office. 一些学生在教室里，其余的学生在老师的办公室里。
