作者:孙国良 Perhaps you know that Canadas Thanksgiving Day isnt the same day as Americas. Perhaps you also know Canadas parliament(国会) made Thanksgiving Day a holiday a little later than America did. But, do you know that Canadians first settled their Thanksgiving Day 40 years earlier than Americans? It is on the second Monday of October that Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving Day. On Thanksgiving Day in America, Americans recall(缅怀) when their ancestors(先辈) celebrated on the new land. However, Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving Day to thank God for giving them a successful harvest. Canadas Thanksgiving Day is earlier than that of Americas; a simple reason is that Canadas harvest season is earlier. In 1879, Canadas parliament declared(宣布) that November 6 was Thanksgiving Day and a holiday for the whole country. In the following years the date of Canadas Thanksgiving Day changed many times, until on January 31, 1957, Canadas parliament declared that the second Monday of every October would be Thanksgiving Day. There are a lot of similarities(相似) between the Canadian and American Thanksgiving Day. For example, people usually eat turkey and pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving dinner. 相关链接:教学论文
