不可吃的“食物”

在英语中有许多表示"食物"的名词。有时这些词已失去它们本身的含义，遇到这种情况，你可要当心：下面的"食物"不可吃。
1. She is the apple of her mother's eye. 她是妈妈的掌上明珠。
2. The plane dropped a few hot apples. 飞机扔下了几枚炸弹。
3. The poor woman went bananas shortly after her only son died. 那可怜的妇女在她唯一的儿子死后不久就变疯了。
4. Mr Black takes the cake as storyteller. 布莱克先生讲故事无人能比。
5. His joke laid an egg. 他的笑话无法使人发笑。
6. His uncle is a queer fish. 他叔叔是个怪人。
7. His new books are just published. And the bookshop started selling them like hot cakes. 他的新书刚一出版，在书店就成了抢手货。
8. The young man is an egg head. 这小伙子是个书呆子。
9. Last time nobody cried over milk about it. 上次对那件事没有人感到悲伤。
10. Now all of us are in deep waters. 现在我们处境困难。
11. Don't sandwich me between both of you. 不要把我夹在你们俩之间。
12. I've never seen such a cabbage. 我从没见过这么呆头呆脑的人。
13. After the accident he became a vegetable. 事故过后，他成了一个植物人。
14. He always gives salt to life. 他总是给生活添加刺激。
15. His brother was out of bread three days ago. 他哥哥三天前失业了。
16. That's another cup of tea. 那是另外一回事。
17. Anyway I have to earn my own bread. 不管怎样，我得自己养活自己。
18. When I got home, I wrote a bread and butter to thank her for the nice dinner. 回家后我写了封感谢信给她，感谢她的热情款待。
19. Everyone knows that he is a bad egg. 人人都知道他是个坏蛋。
