Step 3.Grammar: Noun Clauses used as Subject, Object and Predicative.
Instructions:
1.In the Object clause “that” is optional and can be omitted. But in the Predicative
and Subject Clauses “that” is necessary and cannot be omitted.
2.You should pay attention to the word order in the Noun Clause. Normal word order is used in it.
3.In order to keep the sentence balanced. We often use “it” as the formal subject, which replaces the real subject.
4.The subordinate conjunction “whether” can introduce all the Noun Clauses, while the subordinate conjunetion “if” can only introduce an object clause used as the object of a verb.
Exercise:
1.Find out the function of the Noun Clause in each sentence.
2.Look at the questions about the future in the box on the left. Then use the expressions in the box on the right to change your questions into Noun Clause.

Exercise 3.Identify the type of clause in each of the sentences.
Instruction: The difference between a Noun Clause and an Attributive Clause. A Noun Clause is used as a Subject, Object, Predicative or Appositive in the main clause. An Attributive Clause serves as an attribute to some nouns or pronouns in the main clause, and it is often placed after this noun or pronoun. The Attributive clause is introduced by the relative pronouns and the relalive adverbs.

T: We have known what the life will be in the year 3044. Imagine that you have come back from a trip to the future. You visited the year 4367 and you saw a wonderfu invention called a Mogray.
Now work with your partner and decide what a Mogray is, what it looks like and what it is used for. Before writing, you have to complete the outline on the screen.
What does a Mogray look like? How does it work? What can it be used for?

Instruction: A description of an object should include a physical description (what the object looks like, how big it is etc.) as well as a “practical / functional” description (what it can be used for / how you use it).

“口语”(Speaking)部分设计了以下内容:2089年科学家已掌握了克隆人的技术,能制作一个与原型一模一样的另一个新人,新人能做一切原型会的事情。要求学生讨论决定这种新技术应不应该采用。这样的设计能训练学生的思维、推理能力。
“阅读”(Reading)部分是一篇幻想将来人类生活的科普文章,共分四个部分,分别阐述和设想将来的交通、商业、医药与健康以及教育与知识。
本单元教学的最深体会:贴近学生实际,充分挖掘学生的想象力,会让课堂更加生动活泼。
不足之处:学生的表达能力还不够完善,任重道远。

Some people seem to have a knack(诀窍)for learning languages. They can pick
up new vocabulary, master rules of grammar, and learn to write in the new language more quickly than others. They do not seem to be any cleverer than others, so what makes language learning so much easier for them? Perhaps if we take a close look at these successful language learners, we may discover a few of the techniques which make language learning easier for them.
First of all, successful language learners are independent learners. They
do not depend on the book or the teacher; they discover their own way to learn the language. Instead of waiting for the teacher to explain, they try to find the patterns(句型)and the rules for themselves. They are good guessers who look for clues(线索)and form their own conclusions(结论).When they look for such a chance. They ask these people to correct them when they make a mistake. They will try anything to communicate(交际).They are not afraid to repeat what they hear or to say strange things; they are willing to make mistakes and try again. When communication is difficult, they can accept information that is inexact or incomplete. It is more important for them to learn to think in the language than to know the meaning of every word.
Finally successful language learners are learners with a purpose. They want to learn the language because they are interested in the language and the people who speak it. It is necessary for them to learn the language in order to communicate with these people and to learn from them. They find it easy to practise using the language regularly because they want to learn with it.

People often collect things. Stamps, books and records are fairly common. But the strangest collection I have ever seen belongs to a man who possesses 1,500 clocks. A man of independence
Arpu, a man of great determination and independence, has won great respect of the villagers who are getting richer and richer.
At 18 Arpu became blind as a result of a serious disease. He couldn’t but learn to do housework and began to keep sheep determining to depend on himself. Three years later he sold his sheep and earned a great amount of money. With the money he set up a broadcasting station, from which different programmes such as agriculture knowledge, stories, music and so on are broadcast. The new information he introduced has benefited the villagers and music has enriched their life as well.
His efforts have brought great changes and development to the village and Arpu is enjoying his life by working hard.
