T:In this class,we'll do some exercises first.Then we'll learn a dialogue.Now,please look at the screen.Make sentences using the words and expressions on the screen. (Ss may prepare for a few minutes.Then the teacher may ask some students to say their sentences.) Step Ⅱ.Preparation for Dialogue T:Please look at the screen.Let's learn some new words and expressions first. (The teacher may explain the new words and expressions and then teaches the students how to read them.) T:Today,we're going to learn a dialogue.First,I want to ask you a question.Do you know the French Revolution? Ss:No. T:OK.I give you a brief introduction.It broke out in July,1789.In the revolution,the poor of the cities and the peasants in the country rose up against the French king and the rich.In the country,the revolutionaries set fire to the nobles'castles and burnt them to the ground.The nobles caught many people and put them into prison.Now,let's listen to the tape and try to answer the questions on the screen. (Play the tape for Ss to listen.) T:Now,who can answer the first question? S:He wanted to go into the castle. T:(To the other students.)Do you agree? Ss:Yes. T:Now,who knows the answer to the second question? S:A servant. T:Good.Please sit down. Step Ⅲ.Reading T:Now,open your books and turn to Page 55,please.Read the dialogue quietly and then answer the questions on the screen. T:OK.That's all for the questions.While you were reading the dialogue,you might find some of the sentences difficult to understand.Now,look at the screen.I'll explain them to you to help you understand the dialogue better. (Teacher then explains the above to the Ss.) T:Now,listen to the tape again.This time you can listen and follow.After that practise the dialogue in pairs. (Play the tape and then let Ss practise for a while.After that,teacher may ask one or two pairs to act out in front of the class.) Step Ⅳ. T:Right,we can also say: Having returned to France,he was put in prison.(2) (Write the sentence on Bb and mark it with (2).)Now,pay attention to these two sentences. In sentence (2),there are two actions.One is “returned to France”,and the other is “was put in prison”.Which happened first? Ss:The action “returned to France”happened first. T:That's right.Now,let's look at sentence (1).In this sentence,two things happened or were true at the same time.While in the second sentence one thing happened first and then another thing happened.When two things happen at the same time,or almost at the same time in one sentence,we often use the following structures: v.-ing(phrase),main clause or:main clause,v.-ing (phrase) (Write the above on Bb.) While one thing happens first,the other happens later,we usually use the following structures: having done,main clause or:main clause,having done Are you clear? Ss:Yes. T:Now,look at the other three sentences in Part 2 Language Study.Can you say something about the actions in them? S:In the first sentence,two things happened at the same time. S:In the third and fourth sentences,two things happened at different times.
