Franklin’s Famous Kite Experiment
(the second period)
Teaching Aims:
1. Learn and master some words and phrases
2. Learn how the scientist Franklin found lightning and electricity are the same.
3. Improve the students’ reading ability through reading activities.
4. Let the students know how hard to be a scientist besides inspiration.

1. Understand the following sentences correctly:
(1) Having realized that I could use a kite to attract lightning, I decided to do an experiment.
(2) Fly the kite when a thunderstorm appears to be coming on.

Greet the whole class as usual.
Step Ⅱ Revision
T: In the last period, we talked about advantages and disadvantages of the work of the scientists, such as nuclear energy and clone. Now I will ask you to act out the dialogue in front of the class. Any volunteers?
Step Ⅲ Lead-in
T: What’s the weather like today?
S1: It’s sunny and windy.
T: Quite right. It’s the very time to fly kite. Do you think so? ( T shows some pictures on the screen and ask the following question: What are the people doing? )
S2: They are flying kites.
T: Yes, we fly kites just for fun, but in the eighteenth century, Benjamin Franklin did a lot of experiments with kite to attract lightning. Have you ever considered doing that? (yes) then you will be Franklin second. (no), it doesn’t matter, after all , not everyone can become a genius. Edison once said Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration. Well, how much do you know about the famous scientist- Franklin (some information about him on the screen):
