Step1. Free talk
Let’s discuss these questions about football.
① How many players are there in a football team?
② Do you know which player can use his/her hands during the match.
③ How long does a match usually last? How long does the first match last?
④ Which team was first in the 2002 Football World Cup?
⑤ Who is your favourite football player? Why?
⑥ What do you think of Chinese men’s/women’s football team.
Step2. presentation
T introduces “Today we’re going to learn a passage about a football match. This match is between boys and girls in the No.69 Middle School. The boys’ team is very strong while the girls’ is weak. Can you guess who’ll win the match?”
Step3. Read
Let’s read the passage as quickly as they can, then tell if these statements are right or wrong.
① The girls football team used to beat the boys’ team.
② Mr Hu is the captain of the boys’ team.
③ At first the boys played very well and they scored two goals in the first half.
④ Their best striker, Lu Ming scored the first goal.
⑤ After the boys scored, the girls felt a little nervous.
⑥ In the first half, the girls didn’t score a goal.
