Brief Statements based on the unit The main topic of this unit is art and literature, including paintings, films, drama, concert and novels, about which plenty of language materials and exercises are designed. At first the students are asked to talk about four famous paintings. Then, in order to improve students listening, ability, they will be asked to listen to three passages and tell the detailed information about them. The students will improve their speaking, ability in the activities appearing in Speaking. Next, Prereading, Reading and post reading are all about the famous novel and film of the world Harry Porter. By discussion and reading the text .the students will learn a lot about Harry Potter’s life, difficulty and overcome difficulty, as well as how to be happy and live a good life. At the same time, they will learn plenty of useful words and expressions. Language study includes exercises about word formation and Nonrestrictive Attribute Clause. Integrating skills is designed on purpose to train the students’ writing ability and skill. After learning the whole unit, the students will learn a lot in art and literature and improve their ability to listen, speak, read and write. At the end of the Unit, there is some advice on how to read a story. And the students will surely benefit from it. Teaching Aims: 1. Train the students’ reading ability. 2. Learn and master the following phrases: in trouble, come across, fight against, succeed share, and believe in Teaching Important Points: 1. Let the students understand the text better. 2. Tell the differences among the following phrases: used to do/be used to do/be used to doing. Teaching Difficult Points: 1. Master the following sentence patterns: (1) make sb. / sth. +adj. (2) It is + adj. + to do sth. 2. Understand the following sentence pattern correctly: Where someone is born and what a person looks like is not as important as what he or she grows up to be. Teaching Methods: 1. Questioning-and-answering activity to help the students to go through with the whole passage. 2. Careful reading to find out the detailed information about the passage. 3. Pair work or group work to make every student work in class. Teaching Aids: 1. a computer 2. a tape recorder Teaching procedures: Step 1 Greetings Greet the whole class as usual. Step 2 Presentation T: Have you seen the film “Harry Potter”? T: Do you know who plays the role of Harry Potter? Step 3 Reading. Today we’ll read a passage about the film Harry Potter. First, Let’s have a discussion. Now work in groups of four and discuss the questions above the reading text. (teacher gives the students some time to have a discussion then asks some of them to give their opinion.) Now there are some words and expressions we should learn to use. And there are also some sentences patterns that we should master. 1. She is a warmhearted woman. She is always ready to help those in trouble. 2. There used to be a temple in the village. Wood can be used to make desks and chairs. I have got used to getting up early. 3. The good news made all of us happy. He has a strange way to make his classes lively and interesting. 4. I don’t believe in him. Teacher explains the sentence on screen. Meanwhile, teacher writes the language points on the blackboard. Read the text carefully and complete the following chart. Second: After reading let Ss have a discussion with their partner about these new words and try to guess their meanings according to the context. Task 2: information hunt. T invites Ss to have free talk about any information reading. I ask Ss to summarize mentioned in this passage? Step 6 Summary and Homework T: In this class, we’ve read a passage about “Harry Potter”. We’ve also learned some useful words. Expressions and some sentence patterns. After class, you should learn them by heart and try to use them correctly and freely. And do the exercises on Page 152 Vocabulary 1、2. Preview the grammar in the next period. |
