No one could account for the fact that one of the boxes was extremely heavy. It suddenly occurred to one of the workers to open up the box. He was astonished at what he found. A man was lying in the box on top of a pile of wooden goods. He was so surprised at being discovered that he did not even try to long and uncomfortable trip, for he had been confined to the wooden box for over eighteen hours. The man was ordered to pay $3,500 for the cost of the trip. No one could account for the fact that… 谁也弄不清楚……这样一个事实 No one knows… 没有人知道…… account for = explain= give the explanation 说明原因、作出说明(或解释),但也有区别,account 的解 释必须是令人满意的,而explain 却只要是一个解释就行 The bad weather in England accounts for Harrison’s decision to leave the country.
