Lesson Draft for Not Just Watching a Film Good morning,It’s my great pleasure to be here sharing my lesson with you. In the reading process, I will focus on students’ long-term development and enable them to use proper reading skills and strategies. In other words, students are guided to read efficiently and independently. I’ll be ready to divide my draft into five parts.. Analysis of the teaching material, the teaching methods, the studying methods, the teaching procedure, and Blackboard design. First, let me talk about the teaching material. Section 1 Analysis of the teaching material The selected teaching material is a business proposal taken from the Reading section of Unit 3, Module 4 of Advance with English. This unit explores the theme of the future and tomorrow’s world. It provides a chance for students to gain a better understanding of the future and to imagine what they think will happen in the future and to imagine what they think will happen in the future with the rapid development of science and technology . As for the reading text, it is a business proposal which introduces a virtual reality cinema called RealCine, a new high—tech form of cinema. As we all know, reading belongs to the input during the process of the language learning. The input has great effect on output, such as speaking and writing. According to the New Standard Curriculum, after studying the teaching material and analyzing the rule of children’s growing of mind, I think the teaching aims are the followings: 1. Knowledge objects: 1. Students are required to learn some information about how this product works, why it is better than ordinary cinema, and how it can be used in many other ways. 2. Students are expected to know that the language for a proposal should be clear and persuasive, the information should be detailed and convincing, and the author needs to be objective. 2. Ability objects: Students are expected to master this strategy and become more competent in reading a business proposal. 3. Emotion or moral objects: By completing the task, the Ss increase their interest in science and technology and prepare to make contributions to the development of science. Now, let’s come to the important points and the difficult points. 1. Be familiar with VR. 2. Have a debate on VR successfully. Section 2 Analysis of the teaching methods In my opinion, the main aims of learning English in the Middle School is to develop the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson I’ll mainly use “Task-based” language teaching. That is to say, students are the master of our class and they will do things with English in my class. Generally speaking, students in our class don’t pay enough attention to English learning. They are poor in cooperative learning skills. Some students are not active in the class, and some students don’t like English. Therefore. However, we teachers should try to develop their ability. The students will work in group to discuss and finish the given tasks. They can show what they have learned to their partners in the group. At last, they will have a debate about RealCine. Section 4 Teaching Procedure Step 1 Lead -in Show several extras from the film Avatar to students and ask them the following questions: 1.Do you like it? 2.Do you feel it exciting if you are actually in the film? And what technology is behind this product? 2. What is the difference between Realcine and ordinary cinema? 3. What is the disadvantage(缺点) of VR ? Step 3 Reading strategy: reading a business proposal A business proposal is____________________________________________.A good proposal has to be ________ and __________. It usually includes __________________ and _____________ or____________. 【设计说明】读阅读策略,在后文章体会特点。 Step 4 Reading comprehension :( fast-reading) a Realcine, which excites all five of people’s senses, is different from ordinary cinema. b. VR can provide people with another way to experience the world. c. An argument about Realcine has come up. d. A brief introduction to the new technology– Realcine . e. We should admit that Realcine is a good opportunity for film-making. f. The senses of smell and taste can also be satisfied. g. How does Realcine work? h. VR has many other uses. And what technology is behind this product? 2. What is the difference between Realcine and ordinary cinema? 3. How does Realcine excite all five of our senses? See/hear-headsets Touch- gloves Smell- openings Taste- a straw sensor 4. What is the advantage(优点) of VR? 5. What is the disadvantage(缺点) of VR? Step 6 Debate Tell students that different people hold different opinions towards RealCine. Opinion 1: Those who support virtual reality believe that, with this technology, people can do almost everything, even things that cannot be realized in normal life. We don’t need to travel any more or spend so much time with friends any more. Virtual reality can provide any necessary features that we need in our life. Opinion 2: Others insist that real life and interpersonal communication should never be replaced by imaginary scenes. People should take off the headsets and experience the real life themselves. Ask students which one they support and why. Divide students into two groups and have a debate. The group with the most supporting proofs or evidences wins. Review the passage and try to retell the main idea of the passage. 2.
