1. Would you be so kind as to shut the door, please? (P57) 请你把门关上好吗?
so…as to: 如此 …以致于… 表示结果
He got up so early as to catch the early bus.
so…that… 如此…以致于，引导结果状语从句
He got up so early that he caught the early.
so as to: 为了，相当于in order to, 但so as to不能用于句首。
He got up very early so as to catch the early bus.
so that:为了，引导目的状语从句；以致于，引导结果状语从句。
He got up very early so that he could catch the early bus.
He got up very early so that he caught the early bus.
典型题例：
Roses need special care _____ they can live through winter. (2004全国)
A. because B. so that C. even if D. as
答案及解析:
选B. so that 以便, 引导目的状语从句.
2. By order of the headmaster, these doors must be kept shut at all times.(P57) 根据校长的命令， 这些门必须一直关着。
at all times: 无论何时，一直
You should be ready at all times for the coming examination.
at times: 有时，不时
He wrote to me at times when he was abroad.
at a time: 每次， 一次
You can borrow two books at a time on the condition that you return them on time.
at one time: 曾经，一度
We were good friends at one time.
at the same time: 同时
典型题例:
Your performance in the driving test didn't reach required standard, _____. you failed.
A. in the end B. after all C. in other words D. at the same time
答案及解析:
选C. in the end 最后,最终; after all毕竟; in other words换句话说; at the same time 同时.
3. Would you mind shutting the door? (P57) 你介意把门关上吗？
mind: verb 介意，反对，常用于疑问，否定，条件句中。
to be annoyed or worried by something:
Do you think he'd mind if I borrowed his book?
[+ ing form of verb] I don't mind having a dog in the house so long as it's clean.
Would you mind turning (= Please would you turn) your radio down a little please?
Do you mind if (= May) I put the television on?
[+ object + ing form of verb] Do you mind me smoking?
[+ question word] I don't mind what you wear so long as it's not that awful pink shirt.
I'd prefer to stay in tonight, if you don't mind.
