He gave us his entire attention. 辨析: 1) whole 着重“完整的”整体,指完整无缺的统一体,不可分割,一个不少,没有丝毫减少和遗漏。whole在日常用语中用的最多,entire则可以修饰抽象名词,而whole 则不行。如:They told me the whole story. 2) all 常可以和whole互换,但whole位于定冠词、物主代词之后,而all则放在它们之前。如:All the windows are open. 3) entire含“齐全无缺”之意,即其完整的程度达到既不可减少也不可增添的地步。如:The entire class will be there.全班都在这儿。 4) total指数量上的全部。如:The club has a total membership of about 300.这家俱乐部的成员总数约为300. total, all, whole, entire (1).
