Part 1. Read the dialogue to find out what the weather is going to be like in the nest two days.(Dry and Sunny). What will Tim do? How about next weekend? What will the weather be like? What wil he do?

Speech Cassette Lesson 93. Play the tape of the dialogue to listen and repeat.Then let them practise the dialogue in pairs. Get them to make up new dialogue , usint the words on the right.

Listening Cassette Unit 24. Play the tape once or twice as necessary. Discuss the answers with the whole class. For Exx. 2 and 3, make sure the Ss know what to do before you play the tape. Ex.4 is a discussion topic.

Part 1. Let the Ss read the title and the first sentence of each paragraph.Get them to say what they think the passage is about.

ReadingAsk the Ss to read the pasage to find out about Jia Sixie.They can make notes in their exercise books. When they finish reading, they close their books. Using their notes they talk to their parters about the work of Jia Sixie. Then discuss the passage with the whole class. Then deal woth difficult language points.

Revision:
Revise the contents of the reading passage in Lesson 94.

Reading:
Let the Ss read the passage for a few moments. Then ask them some     questions.
NOTES:
1. year after year: every year cf. Year by year
2. five pieces of advice: advice is an uncoutable noun, so we use the phrase a piece of advice.
3. Go against nature: do things that are the opposite of the natural way
4. Do things at the wrong time of year: at a time of year when the weather conditions are unsuitable
5. Grow different plants next to each other in the same field: next to each other refers to defferent plants.

Language focus:
Talk avout some of the notes on the Bb, using Indirect Speech. Write the first sentence on the Bb and revise the forns of Indirect Speech:
1. change of pronouns
2. use of an introductory phrase: he told/advised farmers to…/that, or they asked him…
3. change of tense in the reported phrase, when appropriate

Practice:
Talk about the advice given by Jia Sixie by asking each other What is his first  advice?etc. then look at part 2. Let the Ss work in pairs, get some Ss to report the advice to the whole class.

Go through the examples in the book with the Ss and revise the forms of indirect questions. Do one or two examples with the whole class. Then let the Ss work alone or in pairs.

Revision:
1.    Revise the contents of the reading passages in Lesson 94 and 95. Ask a few more Ss to say something about Jia Sixie.
2.    Revise Indirect Statements by getting the Ss to report the advice given by Jia Sixie in his book.

Do the first two orally with the whole class, then let the Ss work alone. Collect the answers from the whole class.

Checkpoint:
Go through the checkpoint. Deal with any other language points that you or the Ss wish to raise. Mote that in form Indirect Speech is very much like the Object Clause. Reported orders and requested are just like the Indinitive used as the Object supplement.

Test: dictate this passage to the Ss:
Jia Sixie was one of the pioneers of farming. He studied, collected information, did experiments and he learnt from farmers and peasants. In 533-544 AD, he wrote a book which included advice on improving the condition of the soil, growing green vegetables and fruit trees, keeping cows and sheep, and keeping fish in lakes. He also gave instructions for making wine.

Preparation for writing:
Go through the instructins and make sure that the Ss know what they have to do. Revise the layout of a friendly letter and brainstorm the possible contents with the whole class. Encoutage the Ss to make a plan for their letter before they begin .

Writing:
Let the Ss write the letter in their exercise books. They can show it to a partner for suggested improvements. Ask the Ss to write a neat version for homework.
