一、阅读文章“一文多用”举例: If you are in charge of a project, the key to success is getting everyone to want to help you. As a director, I point, I suggest, I gently push the actors in the direction I want them to go. In the 1986 movie Nothing in Common, Jackie Gleason’s character, Max Basner, gets fired from his job as a clothing salesman. The scene, shot on a boat, shows Max’s despair about being out of work. I was looking for some gesture that would allow Max to show his feelings. Jackie had far more experience at everything I did, and at first I was frightened. What would I possibly tell “The Great One” about acting? Out of fear I decided to direct by suggestion, and I sat down with Gleason to talk about scene. “So Max is sad, right?” I said. Gleason nodded. “And he’s probably still carrying his pens with his name on them-the ones he used to hand out to his customers, right?” Gleason nodded. “So what would you want to do with the pens after you were fired?” He was silent for a moment.” Why don’t I throw them overboard?” I stood up and turned toward the crew. “Hey, everybody, Jackie has a wonderful idea. Let’s shoot it.” After filming the scene, Gleason called me over and said with a smile, “Garry, what kind of wonderful idea am I going to have tomorrow?” You and your team can discover the answers to problems together. Our skins let us know whether the air is moist or dry, whether surfaces are wet without being sticky or slippery. From the uniformity of slight pressure, we can be aware how deeply a finger is thrust into water at body temperature, even if the finger is enclosed in a rubber glove that keeps the skin completely dry. Many other animals, with highly sensitive skins appear to be able to learn still more about the environment. Often they do so without employing any of the five senses. By observing the capabilities of other members of the animal kingdom, we come to realize that human being has far more possibilities than are utilized. We neglect ever so many of our senses in concentrating on the five major ones. At the same time a comparison between animals and man draws attention to the limitations of each sense. The part of the spectrum seen by color-conscious man as red is non-existent for honey-bees. But a bee can see far more in flowers than we do, because the ultra-violet to which our eyes are blind is a stimulating part of the insect’s spectrum and for honey-bees at least constitutes a separate color. 2 Some people are never right. They never have good luck. They usually do the wrong things and say the wrong things. And even if what they say or do is O.K., they as a rule say it or do it at the wrong time. So these people always have problems. They often break dishes. They sometimes miss buses and airplanes. Mr. Neff is different. He is always right. He is never wrong. He usually has good luck. He seldom has problems. He never breaks dishes. He never misses buses and the airplanes. Even if he does miss them, it is always the fault of the buses and the airplanes. Mr. Neff knows almost everything. He doesn’t ask questions; he answers questions. He never says I don’t know. I don t know Mrs. Neff. It seems that not many people know her. I sometimes wonder about her. Is she always right? Or maybe she is always wrong? Does she often break dishes or miss buses? Does she have problems? I wonder.
