Shandong Provincial Education Department has recently taken strict measures to make sure that no student has to go to school on weekends or during official holidays. For the first time in our senior middle school life my friends and I enjoyed a full-length winter vacation ,and for the first time in years we are free to do what is necessary and important to meet our personal needs .In the past years ,we kept working hard from morning till night in order to get a higher mark in the college entrance exam. We omitted everything (such as art classes ,social activities ,etc. )that did not have a direct relationship with that goal .Consequently ,many of us are weak both physically and mentally. Over 70 percent of my classmates are near-sighted ¡­ If the whole generation of us continue to live this way, what would the future of our nation be like?! I¡¯d like to express my heartfelt thanks to our responsible government for its wise and timely decision to bring all that to an end.

Meng Xiangbin ,a 28-aged PLA man officer ,lost his life in saving a drowning girl ,His heroic behavior moved the whole society .through which we can see the crystal-clear heart of a hero ,I strongly feel that heroic spirit never fades .
Our society calls for heroism ,No dynasty in history can survive without heroes ,It is heroes who take the lead in fighting against criminals and set an example for the masses to follow ,They are the backbone of our nation who makes great contributions to human life .
Additionally heroism is a kind of virtue ,Financially speaking although a few people¡¯s hearts are largely occupied by business and money ,heroism is deeply rooted at the bottom of our hearts ,So in time of danger ,many heroes will give their hands without hesitation .
In a word ,we should advocate the whole society to follow the example of Meng Xiangbin

I'm writing to tell you something about the Beijing Olympic Volunteer Programme. 
It is reported that around 100,000 volunteers will work for the Olympics to be held in Beijing this summer. They are mostly university students from Beijing who can communicate in foreign languages. They are required to be polite and friendly to visitors. They are also expected to be dedicated. More importantly, they should have a serious attitude toward their working positions.
The volunteers fall into two groups. Games-time volunteers will be at the services during the Games. And City volunteers will be volunteering at the scenic spots, hotels and airports and so on, where they will be offering information and other services. Besides, they will introduce Chinese culture and history to foreigners.

Recently, Ministry of Education has announced to add Peking Opera as a compulsory course in primary and secondary schools. Different people have different opinions on it. My classmates held a discussion on it the other day.
According to the discussion, there are two different opinions. Some students support the project wholeheartedly. They think Peking Opera can help promote Chinese culture because it has a long history and is rich in traditional culture. Besides, Pekiing Opera is a synthesis of different arts and has an elegant form of expression, which can help develop students' aesthetic ability.
Others hold a different opinion. They think students should have some freedom to choose what to learn. If they are forced to learn, their learning interest can be damaged. They also argue that there are many local operas all over China. Different local operas can be taught in different areas to pass down Chinese traditional culture.
I share the view of the second group. Besides their reasons, I also worry whether there are enough qualified teachers for the task. In addition, we have so many traditional arts in history
that it's impossible to learn them all in classroom.
