Teaching steps: Step 1. Revision 1. Revise the forms in which writing tasks are given.
Step 2 Writing steps and an example of writing based on a caricature 1.Revise writing steps. 2. Show one example on “ Analyzing the topic.” 3.Show another example , following all the writing steps. This is an example of writing based on a caricature.
Step 3 Practice…(example 2 of 2010) 1.Analyze the topic. Ss can write their answers in the learning plan first. Invite individual students to give their opinions. 2.Work out the structure. Ask one student to work out the structure. 3. Work out the key points Ask the Ss to work out the key points for each part. Teacher need to remind the Ss that it is very important to express the meaning correctly and cover all the key points.
For part 1: Description of the picture, guide the Ss on how to observe the picture(s) by asking questions as follows: Who are the people in the picture? What’s the relationship between them? What objects have you found in the picture? What is the connection between them? When these questions are answered, the key points will be worked out at the same time.
For part 2: Interpretation of the picture, ask Ss to discuss in groups of four on the meaning of “hardware, software and underwear”. Teacher can help the students to think about their own experiences with computers in the real life and recall what measures their parents are taking to make sure their safety on the internet.
For part 3: Personal opinion. Encourage the Ss to give their own ideas.
3. Writing Ask Ss to choose one part to write a paragraph with the help of the key points the class have listed.
4. Presentation Choose one or two Ss’ writing for each part and show them to the whole class on the projector. Encourage the students. If there are any mistakes, try to let the Ss find them and correct them.
5. A possible version Show the students a complete passage written by the teacher.
Step 4 Homework Ask the Ss to follow the writing steps and don’t forget to do proof-reading when they finish the writing.
