2011.11 Text 1 M: How has your father been feeling since his operation? W: Much better, thanks. We will be bringing him back home in about three days. Text 2 M: Why not join us singing the song? Everybody needs to take a break every once in a while. W: I guess I might as well. I’ve been studying so long that I just can’t concentrate. Text 3 M: Ella, how are you getting along with the editing work? W: I have written and rewritten so much that I don’t know if I’ll ever get it finished. Text 4 M: You’re not going out with me like that! W: Why not? Purple’s in fashion now. M: Yes, but not with an orange hat. Text 5 M: I have many good ideas to add, Professor Green. But I haven’t been able to organize them clearly. May I give you my essay a few days later? W: You know that I always prefer a well written essay even if it’s a little later. Text 6 M: Only 150 people signed up for the annual seminar so far. W: There’s still another week to go. I expect about half that number more to sign up before Friday. So we should make sure we have room for at least 225. M: Oh, there’s room for 300. I was worried that the space might be too large. W: I don’t think we’ll need to worry about that. A lot of people sign up during the month right before the seminar. But there’s always a large number that wait until the last week. Text 7 M: Our flight has been delayed for two hours. My partners are waiting for me at London Airport. W: Where do you come from?
M: Beijing. I was at a two-week conference there on Space Technology. W: Really? Which places did you visit? M: Apart from Beijing, we went to Nanjing, Shanghai, Xi’an, Hangzhou and Guangzhou. W: Did you enjoy it? M: Very much. It was one of the most exciting tours I’ve ever made. Was this your first trip to China? W: Oh, no, I go almost every year. Unfortunately, it’s always on space-related business, so I’ve only seen the inside of conference rooms and factories. I haven’t had the chance to visit any sites. M: Oh, it’s a great pity! Text 8 W: Good afternoon, sir. I’m calling from Lone Hotel. I understand that you’ll be visiting New York soon. As such, we are pleased to invite you to stay in our hotel. M: Thank you for your invitation, but I think I’d better stick to my regular hotel. W: Sir, we’re having a special offer for guests for our 35th anniversary. M: My regular hotel, too, has come up with an attractive package for guests. W: Well, we are offering a 35% discount on our room rates. M: My regular hotel is offering a 40% discount on rooms. W: Our 35% discount is for the VIP suite, sir. M: I see. Well, I don’t intend to stay in a VIP suite. W: Sir, you will also have an opportunity to win an air ticket to Mauritius plus a week’s stay there … M: I see, but I just returned from Mauritius three days ago. W: Very well, sir. I hope you will consider our offer again. If you need further details about our attractive package, please give us a call. Here’s my number, sir … M: I don’t need your number. Why don’t you save it for someone else? Text 9 Thank you for coming to this meeting for students who will be remaining on campus during the ten-day winter break. As the dean of students, it is my responsibility to explain the vacation arrangements and to have you fill out forms giving the dates you will be on campus. To reduce heating costs, Butler Hall will be the only dormitory open. All the other dorms will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7 and will not reopen until 6 p.m. on Feb. 16. Once we have your completed forms, we will arrange you a room in Butler Hall. Please have all the belongings you will need move to your temporary accommodations by the 7th, as it will not be possible to reopen the other dorms during these ten days once they’ve been closed. Most college facilities will be closed during the vacation. These facilities include the gymnasium, the college store, and the dining-halls. The library and the computer center will be open, though on a reduced schedule. Only the post office and the college administration offices will be open on their regular hours. Since I imagine most of you are staying here to finish up academic projects of one sort or another, let me wish you luck with your work. If you have any special problems, please do not hesitate to contact me at the dean’s office. 参考答案 第一部分 听力选择:1—15 ACCBA BCBCB CAABA 第二部分 单项选择:16—30 CCBAD DDAAC BCBDA 完形填空:31—50 BCDCB BABAD CACAB DCADD 第三部分 阅读理解:51—65 ACBD ACCB CABB DDB 第四部分 词汇检测: 66. appointment 67. competence 68. optional 69. bothering 70. equipped 第五部分 同义转换: 71. seemingly 72. defeated 73. strengthen 74. tolerates/stands/bears 75. located/situated 第六部分 任务型阅读: 76. more 77. reasons 78. owing/thanks/due 79. growing/increasing/rising 80. lead 81. solve/tackle/settle 82. ensure/secure 83. young 84. rid 85. In the picture, we can see two men are trying to make a bench together. Both of them are working hard, sweating a lot. But obviously they are fixing the legs on opposite sides. Seeing the picture, I can’t help thinking how ridiculous it is. The two men work as a team and both of them do make their efforts. But unfortunately they just mind their own business without communicating with each other. It appears to me that they are not cooperating in an effective way. Working without cooperation leads to inefficiency. But how can we cooperate more effectively? From my point of view, cooperation calls
