I like the program so much that however busy I might be, I would try to spare time to watch it. I keep doing this for the following reasons. Firstly, I’m interested in news as well as current affairs. Secondly, the program always provides viewers with stories which are true and touching. Thirdly, it pays special attention to those who are poor or weak. Thanks to the program, many of the unfortunate become the lucky to be aided. In conclusion, Eyes On is part of my life. I do hope it will become better and better. Yours, Li Ping 听力材料: Text l W: There’s someone playing a guitar over there. We’ll go and listen, shall we? Free entertainment, anyway.
M: No, it’s not free. Here’s a little girl coming around collecting. Text 2 W: Well, if I were you, I think I’d go and say I was sorry. M: But I didn’t start the quarrel. W: Don’t be childish. Anyway, if you say you’re sorry I’m sure she’ll say she’s sorry too. Text 3 W: What did you say to Tom? M: I said I was very unhappy that he hadn’t spoken to me about the prize. W: And what did he say? M: Well, he said he ~vas sorry that I was unhappy, but he also said that he didn’t think that the prize was worth mentioning. Text 4 W: Ah, there you are, Peter. I was afraid you’d got lost. M: I got on the wrong bus, I’m afraid. I’d probably not be here now, but some kind people put me right. I’m sorry I’m late. W: Don’t worry. It doesn’t matter in the slightest. Come in, please. Text 5 M: What were your favourite subjects? W: I liked languages, geography and music. And then I decided to study languages at university. M: Have you got any questions you’d like to ask? W: Yes. What are the working hours? M: Usually while we’re at work, Monday to Friday ... about eight in the morning till six in the evening. Text 6 W: You’re the person who asked about a conference room. M: That’s right. W: Well, our small meeting room is free tomorrow. M: Excellent. That’s just what I wanted. W: Good. And you’re staying for two nights. M: Yes. W: Bed and breakfast only. M: That’s right. W: Would you mind filling this form, please? M: No, not at all. Text 7 M: Hello. W: Hello. Can I help? M: Yes, do you have any tickets available for tonight’s performance? W: Yes, we have. £30 each. How many was it for? M: Just two, thanks. W: Two tickets. Row K, 14 and 15 --- that’s eight rows back. M: Yes, that’s fine, thanks. W: Two £30 tickets ... that’s £60. Thank you. M: Thank you. W: It starts 7.45 this evening. M: OK then. Thanks very much. Bye. Text 8 M: Hi, Julia. W: Hi, Paul. What are you doing here? M: I have an interview for a job. W: A job? M: Yes, I’ve been looking for a new job for ages. I’ve applied for a job with a newspaper company here. W: What kind of job? M: Well, they are starting a new weekly magazine for young people, and they’re looking for a designer. W: Have you worked on a magazine before? M: No, but it’s always been my ambition. Oh, I must go. I don’t want to be late. W: Well, good luck. M: Thank you. Text 9 M: Well, it’s a lovely room. It’s quite a nice size. W: Oh yes. It’s a good-sized room and it’s well-furnished. M: Yes. I can see that. Is there anything that I should know? W: Well, I don’t allow the cat to go upstairs at all. M: Oh? Not at all. W: I don’t like cats upstairs. And I don’t allow people to smoke in bedrooms. M: Oh no, I agree with that. I don’t smoke anyway. W: And I don’t allow people to stick pictures up on the walls with sticky tapes. Well you see, when you take the pictures down the tape leaves a mark on the wallpaper. M: Oh, I see. W: And there are just two more things if you don’t mind. If you do get out, would you please remember to close the window? M: Right, I’ll do that. W: And there’s the kettle here, as you can see, but when you boil the kettle could you please put it on the floor and not on the table? M: Oh I see. Does it make a mark or something? W: Yes. It would probably leave a mark. Text 10 Hello everyone. It’s great to be here in Hong Kong again. I’m from the University of Washington and I’d like to tell you a bit about the exchange program for Hong Kong students at the University of Washington. First of all, it costs US$ 20,000, but that includes everything. The exchange lasts for two years, and is very unique. For one thing, our program offers you the advantage of living with a family. In addition, we organize lots of special trips on holiday for our exchange students so that you can see more of Amer
