W: You’re really great! Text 8 W: Excuse me, could you tell me the way to the nearest hospital, please? M: Go down this street, turn right at the third crossing, then walk on until you reach the end. It’s between a post office and a school. W: Oh, it seems far from here. M: Yes. It’s about half an hour’s walk. W: But my baby is ill. I have to take her to see the doctor as soon as possible. M: Then you’d better take a taxi. W: I’m afraid so. Thank you very much. M: You are welcome. Text 9 Mrs Henry kept a very young cat as her pet. One evening the cat was playing outside and didn’t come back. Mrs Henry looked for it everywhere, but could not find it. She called the police and said, “I’ve lost a small black cat. Did anybody find it?” “No, madam.” said the policeman. “But don’t worry. Sometimes cats can live in the snow for days, and when the snow stops, they are quite OK.” Mrs Henry felt happier when she heard this. “And,” she said, “My cat is very clever.
