This passage talks about the growing popularity of western festivals in China compared with fading traditional festivals. Some support celebrations of foreign festivals, while others believe protections should be given to our traditional festivals.
In my opinion, we should save our own traditional festivals and have an open mind on western festivals. On one hand, to protect traditional festivals is to love our own culture and our motherland. Actually, traditional Chinese festivals are rich in variety and content and have no less economic and artistic value than Western festivals. The reason why traditional festivals are less popular is that numerous young Chinese lack a sense of recognition with traditional culture. It is necessary to build up self- confidence to traditional culture among the youth now. On the other hand, western festivals are windows to know foreign cultures. Better understanding foreign countries by cultures is also very essential today.
